Hunting Info - Your Online Source for Information on Hunting

Every year beginners seek hunting info so that they can take part in this exciting sport. One of the best places to seek out hunting info is the fish and game department of the state in which you live. They can now be found via state websites and they can tell you what kinds of rules your state has about hunting seasons for different types of wildlife.

One of the first pieces of hunting info you will probably find is that your state requires completion of a firearms hunter safety course before you can legally obtain a hunting license. This is a requirement in just about every state for people who have never had a hunting license before. You will learn how to use your firearm safely so that no one gets hurt while hunting.

You will need to check out the laws where you live before buying a firearm. You can purchase the firearm before or after your hunter safety course. You will need to learn to practice the safety precautions you learn in the course, and you will need to do a lot of shooting at targets so that you can not only hit the animal you are hunting, but so that you can do it on the first shot. You should not even venture into the woods with your firearm before you have practiced enough to be a good shot.

Make sure that you have researched and/or talked to other hunters about what firearm is appropriate for whatever wildlife you intend to hunt. For instance, no one is going to use a .22-caliber rifle to hunt a large animal, such as a deer, elk, or bear. It is not only important to have the right firearm but also the right ammunition for both the gun and the animal you are hunting.

You don’t have to use a modern firearm to hunt. Most states have bow and arrow seasons and black powder seasons for those who prefer to kill their prey with the same technology used by our ancestors. These types of hunting take more skill than the modern long rifle and you have to be a better scout because you will have to be considerably closer to the animal to get off a shot. You won’t have a modern scope which allows you to be much further away.

The best way for beginners to get hunting info is to talk to other hunters, and if possible, to go out into the field with experienced hunters. Hunting knowledge is something that is acquired through experience over time. Learning to track, to be silent, recognizing wildlife habitat, and learning to gut a carcass are all things that are more easily learned if you can go out on a hunt with someone with experience.

Check to see if there are any local hunting clubs in your area. These are great places to meet other hunters and find people who are willing to share their hunting knowledge with others. Hunting is a great sport, and the more hunting info you have, the more you will enjoy the experience.
